About Us
About Ubuntu Capital
A London-based investment firm founded by Africans — raising capital for high-impact projects and backing East Africa's most promising startups.
Our Story
Ubuntu Capital was founded on a straightforward observation: Sub-Saharan Africa does not lack opportunity, nor does the world lack capital willing to back African growth. What is missing — consistently — is the bridge between the two.
We started out advising on how to make African projects fundable. Along the way we learned the hardest lesson the market teaches: the best way to prove a project is investable is to invest in it yourself. So we changed how we work. Today we originate and structure high-impact projects into purpose-built SPVs, raise capital for them, and put our own money in alongside our investors. Our flagship, Umoja Agricultural Hubs, is a project we built ourselves.
We don't just point at the gap between capital and opportunity — we stand in it.
Alongside our impact-project work, our startup fund writes early cheques of $20,000 to $100,000 into East African founders building for the African market — companies like Carmie, Lumasa Sports, and commodity.plus.
We are headquartered in London, giving us direct proximity to European development finance institutions, private wealth, and international capital markets. Our founders are Ugandan-British, with direct business operations and networks across East Africa and the broader Sub-Saharan region.
Our name reflects our values. Ubuntu — "I am because we are" — is the principle that prosperity is shared or it is not prosperity at all. We believe that putting real capital behind well-prepared projects and bold founders is the most practical way to advance that principle.
What Guides Our Work
Bankability First
We do not advance projects that cannot attract capital on their merits. Our job is to make good projects investable — not to dress up bad ones.
Skin in the Game
We invest our own capital and originated our own flagship project, Umoja. Our incentives are aligned with the outcomes we create, not with fees.
Built to Last
We back projects and founders for the long term — staying involved through delivery and growth rather than chasing one-off transactions.
